Anti-phishing attack startup PIXM Software Inc. today announced an expansion of its products with the launch of PIXM Mobile, which protects individuals and enterprises from targeted and unknown phishing attacks on mobile devices.
Claimed to be the first cloud-based mobile solution developed with computer vision technology, PIXM Mobile detects phishing attacks on mobile devices and stops them in real time as a user clicks on a malicious link. The service can block phishing on any app, including SMS, social media, business collaboration apps, email and web-based phishing pages.
Computer vision technology is a field of artificial intelligence that allows computers to “see” in somewhat the same way humans can. The idea is to look at phishing from the user’s perspective and detect things that attackers use to gain the trust of a potential victim.
The technology is powered by convolutional networks and machine learning models trained on millions of labeled images. PIXM’s computer vision cybersecurity solution was developed by AI experts who achieved breakthroughs in deep learning and convolutional neural networks, resulting in 500 times faster detection of fraudulent web pages.
PIXM says its offering differs from traditional mobile device phishing solutions that rely on domain blacklists, IP reputation and score-based risk evaluations. Using computer vision, PIXM Mobile can visually analyze and identify any phishing attempt as it happens — from broad phishing campaigns to single-target spear-phishing — and disrupt the attack.
“Our mission at PIXM is to stop phishing attacks at the point of click with next-generation artificial intelligence, protecting users no matter which platforms or applications they are using,” Chris Cleveland, founder and chief executive of PIXM, said in a statement. “The future of work communication is through social applications and mobile devices.”
PIXM claims that 50% of phishing breaches now occur via social media rather than corporate email. PIXM Mobile was developed to address this attack vector and the shift toward remote work, which have increased the vulnerability of both individuals and enterprises.
The company was last in the news in February when it raised $4.3 million in seed funding to bring its solutions to the enterprise market. The company is backed by Gula Tech Adventures, FirstIn, AIM13-Crumpton Ventures Partnership, Chaac Ventures and Precursor Ventures.
PIXM Mobile will be available via the Apple App Store today, with support for Android coming later this year.
